The search engine company is working with satellite television provider DISH Network for the service, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported, quoting inside sources.
The service, which lets users search both broadcast and online video sources such as video sharing website YouTube, operates on set-top boxes that run elements of Google's Android operating system.
It is currently being tested with a small number of Google employees and their families, according to WSJ sources. Viewers in the Google test can search by typing queries using a keyboard, not a remote.
Google hopes to combine the programming search service with its own TV advertising service.
