Twitter to relay tweet location

Twitter is working on technology to help users identify the city or neighbourhood from where a tweet

The microblogging service already has "geo API," which allows messages to be accompanied by the latitude and longitude coordinates of where they were posted from.

Twitter is now putting together a database of cities and neighbourhoods that will enable geo-tagged tweets to be associated with a city or neighbourhood rather than just the coordinates.

In future, the tweets would even be able to pinpoint the restaurant, café or park from where the message was sent, it has been reported.

The site is also working on a "reverse geocode" function, in which an app could gather the coordinates, relay them to Twitter and receive possible locations in return.
