BBC Global News director backs social media sites

Peter Horrocks, the new director of BBC Global News, has reportedly told news journalists to use soc

He said that the editorial staff should make better use of social media and become more collaborative in producing stories. He added that technology was changing journalism and that BBC should leave a programme-based mindset behind to adapt to new technologies.

He cited the example of CNN which integrated with social media to significantly improve its reporting. This was evident from its recent coverage of the Haiti earthquake.

In October, the BBC created a social media editor post marking a fundamental change in its attitude toward social media.
