Virgin Media to bring superfast broadband to UK

Virgin Media is contemplating the introduction of superfast broadband speeds of 100Mb to nearly 12.6

Virgin is also expanding its testing of 200Mb broadband in Kent to Coventry. Virgin's chief Niel Berkett said that tests for speeds of up to 1GB are in progress.

The company is reported to have received support from both Labour and the Conservatives.

Virgin currently offers broadband speeds of 50Mb over its fibre network and claims that it is the fastest available in the UK.

Virgin's cable broadband subscriptions rose by 63,600 to 4.1 million in the fourth quarter of 2009.
