Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation (BNSF) is the leading railroad networks operator in North America. The company is engaged in freight rail transportation business, with its principal subsidiary, BNSF Railway, transporting a range of products and commodities derived from manufacturing, agricultural and natural resource industries. The company owns and operates various facilities and equipments including its infrastructure and locomotives and freight cars. In November 2009, BNSF announced a definitive agreement with Berkshire Hathaway Inc. for the latter to completely acquire BNSF. Berkshire already has a 22.6% stake in BNSF, and it will acquire 77.4% of outstanding BNSF shares at USD 100 per share. The company will be a wholly-owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., once the transaction closes, and will continue to operate out of its headquarters in Fort Worth in Texas.The company reported revenues of (U.S. Dollars) USD 18,018.00 million during the fiscal year ended December 2008, an increase of 14.02% over 2007. The operating profit of the company was USD 3,912.00 million during the fiscal year 2008, an increase of 12.22% over 2007. The net profit of the company was USD 2,115.00 million during the fiscal year 2008, an increase of 15.64% over 2007.
