National Institute of Virology
National Institute of Virology (NIV) is principally involved in a range of virus studies. It is an operating unit of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). The institute is engaged in various research activities, including hepatitis, influenza, cell repository, electron microscopy, rickettsioses, clinical virology, biochemistry, virus registry, and biostatistics. NIV conducts arbovirus studies in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO). The institute is also engaged in research studies covering buffalo pox, measles rotavirus gastroenteritis, acute haemorrhagic conjunctivitis, and rabies. Its other activities include supply of laboratory animals and outbreak response services. NIV was formerly known as Virus Research Centre (VRC). The Institute is headquartered in Pune, Maharashtra, India.
