The McClatchy Company (McClatchy) is a hybrid print and online, news and advertising company based in the US. It is engaged in providing a range of newspapers, which includes The Miami Herald, The Sacramento Bee, the (Fort Worth) Star-Telegram, The Kansas City Star, The Charlotte Observer and the (Raleigh) News & Observer. The company through its Web sites offers users information, advertising, e-commerce, news and other services. It also offers a range of premium digital assets. As of December 28, 2008, McClatchy owned 30 daily newspapers and approximately 50 non dailies located in 29 markets. Additionally, it also owns 14.4% of CareerBuilder, an online job site; 25.6% of Classified Ventures, a newspaper industry partnership that offers classified Web sites; cars.com, an auto Web site; and apartments.com, a rental site. The company is headquartered at Sacramento, California.The company reported revenues of (U.S. Dollars) USD 1,900.46 million during the fiscal year ended December 2008, a decrease of 15.92% from 2007. The operating profit of the company was USD 156.17 million during the fiscal year 2008, whereas the company reported an operating loss of USD 2,650.52 million during 2007. The net loss of the company was USD 3.95 million during the fiscal year 2008, as compared to a net loss of USD 2,736.01 million during 2007.
