Electrawinds NV (Electrawinds) is engaged in producing, marketing and distributing green power from clean energy resources such as wind, sun and organic matter. The company is involved in renewable energy projects and provides construction and installation services. In addition, it builds, owns, and operates windmill farms, solar farms and biomass plants and also develops new renewable energy potential and applications. Electrawinds has 15 operational wind farms, three biomass power plants and seven solar installations with combined capacity of 130 MW. Electrawinds operates in France, Italy, Portugal, Poland, Greece, Romania, and Bulgaria. The company is headquartered at Oostende, Belgium.
Electrawinds, along with three partners founded the company Eldepasco for the construction of a offshore windmill farm on the Bank Zonder Naam sandbank. The wind farm would have 36 turbines and is expected to produce around 735 GWh of power annually. It also secured concession for the Rentel offshore wind projects and obtained concession for a 246 MW wind turbine in the North Sea.
Eldepasco consortium signed a contract with Elia, the operator of the Belgian power grid. Under the contract, the power generated at the windfarm on North Sea would be directly injected into the existing high-voltage grid. Further, the company collaborated with Kafileria, a Serbian company to develop the first rendering plant in Siberia. In September 2009, ParticipatieMaatschappij Vlaanderen (PMV) invested EUR 15 million in Electrawinds and has thereby acquired a minority interest in the company.
