(Vital Therapies) is a privately held medical device company engaged in the design, development, manufacture, marketing and distribution of devices used for the treatment of liver disease. It develops the first human liver cell based Extracorporeal Liver Assist Device (ELAD) that offers metabolic support for patients with severe liver failure by processing toxins and synthesizing proteins, which are main products of normal human liver function. ELAD device is designed using the proprietary human hepatocyte cell line, C3A. Currently, ELAD is in investigational clinical trials in the US. and China. The company operates in China through a subsidiary, Vital Therapies (Beijing) Co. Ltd. based in Beijing. Vital Therapies is headquartered in California, the US.
