The Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc (RBS) is the UK based banking and financial services organization. It offers investment banking, commercial banking and wealth management services to personal, commercial and large corporate and institutional customers. The bank operates in the UK, the US, and internationally through its two subsidiaries, the Royal Bank and NatWest. The bank provides a comprehensive range of financial services to more than 40 million customers in over 50 countries. RBS owns more than 40 well known consumer brands including RBS, NatWest, Direct Line, Churchill, Coutts, Ulster Bank and Citizens. At December 31, 2008, the Royal Bank and NatWest had 651 and 1,628 retail branches in the UK. Ulster Bank and First Active had a network of 295 branches and business centers in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Citizens had 1,606 retail banking offices (including in-store branches) covering Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont. The bank is headquartered in the UK.
In July 2009, the bank and Barclays Bank received approval to acquire USP Group, a Spain-based provider of medical services.The company reported revenues of (British Pounds) GBP 18,675.00 million during the fiscal year ended December 2008, a decrease of 42.10% from 2007. The operating profit of the company was GBP 18,675.00 million during the fiscal year 2008, an increase of 54.74% over 2007. The net loss of the company was GBP 23,710.00 million during the fiscal year 2008, as against a net profit of GBP 7,549.00 million during 2007.
