Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation
Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation (WCNOC) is a US based power generation company. The company is engaged in generation of power through nuclear energy. WCNOC is a joint venture between Kansas Gas and Electric (owns a 47% stake), Kansas City Power & Light, a Great Plains Energy Company(owns 47%), and Kansas Electric Power Cooperative, (owns 6%). WCNOC manages the Wolf Creek Generating plant for its owners, who share its energy in proportion to their ownership interest. The company is headquartered at Burlington in Kansas, United States.
Wolf Creek focuses in the operation, maintenance, repair and decommission of Wolf Creek Generating Station. The plant has one Westinghouse pressurized water reactor. Wolf Creek Lake provides cooling water for the reactor. The plant generates about 1,200 megawatt of electrical energy for approximately 800,000 homes. In 2008, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation`s application for a renewed license for the Wolf Creek Generating Station.
