East-Central Iowa Rural Electric Cooperative
East-Central Iowa Rural Electric Cooperative (ECIREC) is a member owned non profit electric utility company. The cooperative is engaged in the distribution of electrical power and energy related value added products and services to its members. It operates and maintains approximately 2,264 miles of distribution system serving around 9,182 members in Benton, Buchanan, Fayette, Bremer, Black Hawk, Linn, Delaware, Clayton, Tama, Iowa and Johnson counties. ECIREC purchases power from Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO), which is a generation and transmission cooperative supplying power to its member distribution cooperatives. It generates electricity from diverse fuel mix including coal, nuclear and renewable energy. The electricity generated is delivered in ECIREC distribution facility, from there it is supplied to end members.
