Bangor Hydro Electric Company
Bangor Hydro Electric Company (Bangor Hydro) is a US based electric utility company. The company is wholly-owned by Emera Inc. Bangor Hydro is principally engaged in energy transmission and distribution and other energy related services to residential, mobile home, commercial, and industries, with in a service area of approximately 5,275 square miles. Bangor Hydro serves over 117,000 customers in portions of the Maine counties of Penobscot, Hancock, Washington, Waldo, Piscataquis, and Aroostook. Bangor Hydro owns and maintains over 9,000-kilometer transmission and distribution system. In addition, the company has 7% working interest in Maine Yankee, a 880 MW nuclear generating plant in Wiscasset, Maine; and 14.2% interest in MEPCO, which owns and operates electric transmission facilities from Wiscasset, Maine, to the Maine-New Brunswick border. Bangor Hydro is also a member of the New England Power Pool and is interconnected with other New England utilities to the south and with the New Brunswick Power Corp. to the north. The company is headqurtered in Bangor, Maine, the US.
