Heavy Water Board
Heavy Water Board (HWB) is an Indian government organization. It is a constituent unit under Department of Atomic Energy, India. HWB is principally engaged in the production and supply of Heavy Water (D2O) to various nuclear reactors. Its heavy water is utilized as moderator and coolant in the nuclear power as well as research reactors. HWB operates seven heavy water plants that are located in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh states. It operates through complex production technology using chemical exchange processes such as bithermal process (H2S-H2O) and monothermal process (NH3-H2). Apart from serving Indian nuclear power reactors, HWB also exported nearly 126 metric tonnes of heavy water to South Korea. Furthermore, it is fully equipped to supply heavy water of any specification across the world. HWB is also involved in research activities for other uses of its product and energy conservation. It is headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.
