Energy Conversion Devices, Inc. (ECD Ovonics) is one of the leading suppliers of solar photovoltaic to industrial, commercial and residential customers. It engages in engineering, development and commercialization of new materials, products and production technology in the fields of alternative energy technology and information technology. The company manufactures solar laminates using a proprietary process and technology thin-film amorphous. In addition, the company receives royalties from licensees of our nickel metal hydride (NiMH) battery technology. The company licenses its optical memory storage technology to Sony, Toshiba, and others. Geographically, the company operates in Germany, Mexico, and San Diego. At present, the company holds 260 US patents and more than 275 foreign patents covering basic material compositions, product applications, and manufacturing processes. ECD Ovonics is headquartered in Michigan, the US.
The company takes pride to be a leading player in terms of manufacturing thin-film, flexible PV modules used in various residential applications. Additionally, the company develops strong, KW-scale metal hydride fuel cells which are meant for backup and mission-critical power for military and commercial applications. Further, the company has commercialized its consumer battery technology.
