Mitchell Electric Membership Cooperative
Mitchell Electric Membership Cooperative (Mitchell EMC) is a member owned electric utility. The cooperative is engaged in distribution of electrical power and other energy related services. It operates 5,158 miles of distribution system, providing electric supply to over to more than 25,000 members in Southwest Georgia. The residential customer make up 90% of the sales and the rest comprises of commercial and industrial (4%), Irrigation (4%), and Other/Public Authority (2%) respectively. The average residential usage is 1,457 kwh.
Mitchell EMC has formed Oglethorpe Power Corporation (OPC), a generation and transmission cooperative, in 1975. OPC operates through Georgia System Operations Corporation (GSOC), and Georgia Transmission Corporation (GTC). It generates electricity from a diverse portfolio of power resources, including fossil, nuclear, coal and hydro facilities, as well as long-term and short-term contracts. Mitchell EMC is headquartered in Georgia, the US and employees 94 people.
