Covanta Mid-Connecticut, Inc.
Covanta Mid-Connecticut, Inc. (Covanta Mid-Conn) a subsidiary of Covanta Energy Inc. mainly operates as the Mid-Connecticut Resource Recovery Facility for the Connecticut Resource Recovery Authority (CRRA). The facility is located on 57 acres site of an old utility plant on the banks of the Connecticut River, processing approximately 2,000 tons of refuse derived fuel (RDF) per day or 624,000 tons per year while operating two 45-Megawatt (MW) electrical generators with an output of 68.5 MW. The facility is also designed to burn coal when solid waste is unavailable. In order to limit its carbon emission, the company incorporates various emission control equipments in its production process such as semi-dry flue gas scrubbers injecting lime, fabric filter baghouses, nitrogen oxide control system and continuous emissions monitoring (CEM) system. Covanta Mid-Conn sell all of its produced power to Connecticut Light & Power Company.
