Human Engineering Research Laboratories
Human Engineering Research Laboratories (HERL) is a US based research and development organization, principally engaged in providing advanced engineering services in clinical research and medical rehabilitation. HERL is involved in design and construction of mobility equipments for people with disabilities. The service portfolio includes research, education, testing and laboratory services. It operates through a network of research and clinical laboratories including, biomechanics and neuromotor control, electronics, imaging/modeling, physiology, robotics, virtual reality, wheelchair testing and activities of daily living laboratories. HERL operates in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Defense, Department of Education; National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health and other private organizations. The organization holds three patents for wheelchair hand rim, oblique angled suspension caster fork, and wheelchair push rim. It is headquartered at Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, the US.
