Finnair Group Deputy CEO to Resign

Mr Heinonen has joined Finnair as CFO in 2004. Since 2009, Heinonen has served as Finnair's Deputy CEO as well as executive vice president with responsibility for Cargo business and Aviation Services, which includes the Group's technical operations, ground handling and catering services.

Additionally, Finnair is planning to launch a new service directed at mobile phone users, which gathers together travel-related services and offers comprehensive travel guidelines and tips. The mobile service can be used in over 3 000 different mobile phones.

The service offers for the customer's use functions that make travelling easier, such as check-in by mobile phone as well as the chance to edit bookings or check the latest flight information. Customers will also be able to access information on the various stages of travel and more than 50 destinations, and maps of more than 40 airports.

Mika Vehvilainen, president and CEO of Finnair, said: “Mr Heinonen has been responsible for the group's financial management during a period when Finnair has made huge investments in aircraft. Reasonably priced financing has been obtained for investments of over one billion euros and the company's balance sheet has been kept on a sound footing.

“In recent years, considerable changes have also been made in Aviation Services, Heinonen's area of responsibility. Sector restructuring and environmental and corporate changes have demanded good, far-sighted judgment in decision-making. During Mr Heinonen's time, cargo business has been purposefully expanded. I extend my thanks to Mr Heinonen for his contribution to the company during challenging times.”
