AirTran Airways is a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings. The airline has more than 2,200 flight attendants represented by AFA-CWA.

According to AirTran, the tentative agreement will go before the airline's flight attendants for a ratification vote over the next 30 days. If ratified by the flight attendants, the collective bargaining agreement would take effect on May 1, 2011.

According to AirTran, the tentative agreement calls for increased compensation, improved benefits and preservation of key service and reliability function. Specific terms of the agreement will not be released. The current collective bargaining agreement became amendable December 1, 2008.

AirTran Holdings conducts all of its flight operations through its wholly owned subsidiary, AirTran Airways (AirTran Airways). The company operates scheduled airline service throughout the US and to selected international locations.

Approximately half of the AirTran’s flights originate or terminate at its hub in Atlanta, Georgia, and it serves a number of markets with service from its hubs in Baltimore, Maryland; Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Orlando, Florida. As of January 31, 2011, AirTran operated 86 Boeing B717-200 aircraft (B717) and 52 Boeing B737-700 aircraft (B737), offering approximately 700 scheduled flights per day.

Bob Fornaro, chairman, president and CEO of AirTran Airways, said: “We are pleased to reach a tentative agreement with our flight attendants. We have negotiated a tentative agreement that will reward our flight attendants for their hard work while still allowing the airline to maintain our low-cost structure.”
