After two years at the top, Philipp Humm has left his position as CEO of T-Mobile USA to head Vodafone's northern and central Europe division. Humm joined T-Mobile's parent company, Deutsche Telekom, in 2005.

Jim Alling, currently COO of T-Mobile USA, will take over Humm's duties on an interim basis while a search for new CEO is underway.

René Obermann, CEO of Deutsche Telekom, said:

Philipp Humm has given the company some important initiatives over the past years. Under his leadership, the cost situation at T-Mobile USA has vastly improved and he led the company during a difficult phase regarding the planned merger with AT&T. Now we need somebody who can convert initiatives into market successes.
