Currently, Ms Baker is a member of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Her term at FCC will end of June 2011.

Comcast is the majority owner and manager of NBCUniversal, which owns and operates entertainment and news cable networks, the NBC and Telemundo broadcast networks, local television station groups, television production operations, a major motion picture company and theme parks.

Ms Baker will be located in the Comcast/NBCUniversal government affairs office in Washington, DC. She has served as acting assistant secretary of commerce for Communications and Information and Acting Administrator of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA).

Before joining NTIA, Ms Baker was vice president at the firm of Williams Mullen Strategies where she focused on telecommunications, intellectual property and international trade issues. She has also held senior positions with Covad Communications and the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association.

In April 2011, Comcast has promoted Bret Perkins to vice president of external and government affairs. Mr Perkins currently serves as senior director of public policy for the company.

Comcast Corporation is principally involved in the operation of cable systems through its cable and in the development, production and distribution of entertainment, news, sports and other content for global audiences through NBCUniversal.

Kyle McSlarrow, president of Comcast/NBCUniversal for Washington, DC, said: “Commissioner Baker is one of the nation’s leading authorities on communications policy and we’re thrilled she’s agreed to head the government relations operations for NBCUniversal.

“Meredith’s executive branch and business experience along with her exceptional relationships in Washington bring Comcast and NBCUniversal the perfect combination of skills.”
