On the road: Menzies Distribution delivers five million newspapers every day.

The British newspaper and magazine wholesaler Menzies Distribution has renewed its seven-year contract with News International (NI), publisher of the Times, the Sun and the Sunday Times. Menzies Distribution is the newspaper and magazine wholesaling division of John Menzies.

The new agreement will see Menzies expand its current footprint with NI to include the distribution of titles in Kent and Lancashire from 1 October 2012 and in Northern Ireland from 1 September 2013.

NI’s titles represent 34 per cent of the total UK newspaper market; this contract secures some £158m of annual trade sales value through to 2019.

David McIntosh, managing director of Menzies Distribution, said:

I am very pleased that we have concluded negotiations with News International and that we will be expanding our relationship into new territories. This is a very significant contract renewal for the business and allows us to plan positively for the future.

Menzies Distribution also provides a wide range of added-value support and marketing services to retailers and publishers.

John Menzies operates two divisions Menzies Distribution and Menzies Aviation and has global operations in Europe, North and Central America, south-east Asia, Australasia and Africa.
