The Daily Mail's report follows on from last year's Turner report which suggested that in order to cover the massive deficit in pension funds many Britons would need to work to at least 67. The newspaper noted that, according to charity group Age Concern, this could leave 10 million people with the unenviable choice of either raising their contributions or working for longer. With heating bills and other expenses increasing, many pensioners believe they have no other choice than to continue working. The government has already stated that the planned reform of the pensions system that will follow the Turner report must incorporate issues of wider social and employment policy (such as fuel poverty and attitudes towards age in the workplace) if it is to succeed.
