Suntech Power to Introduce BlackPearl Module

The new BlackPearl module delivers 10 percent more power than conventional polycrystalline products leading to lower balance-of-system and installation costs per watt, according to Suntech's chairman and CEO Zhengrong Shi.

According to the company, the BlackPearl 250w product is a 60 cell module comprised of 6-inch black square cells. In addition, the modules are built to withstand all weather conditions and the product is ideally suited to rooftop installations where weight, power, and aesthetics are key customer considerations.

Utilizing different technology than Pluto products, the BlackPearl module is comprised of 6-inch square cells that contain minimal oxygen content and achieve 18 percent conversion efficiency at cell level.

The technology was developed based on a wafer manufacturing process that combines the high efficiency of monocrystalline wafers with the reliability of polycrystalline wafers and it was developed by Suntech's in-house R&D and wafer production team.

All Suntech BlackPearl modules also feature an anti-reflective surface trapping the sunlight into the cells combined with a hydrophobic self-cleaning surface structure.

In January 2011, Siemens Energy has signed a framework agreement with Suntech Power Holdings, a manufacturer of photovoltaic modules.

Will the launch enhance Suntech's product aportfolio?
