GenOn Energy COO Steps Down
Mr Jacobs assumed the position of president and COO of GenOn in December 2010 when GenOn was formed following the merger of RRI Energy and Mirant Corporation. At the time of the merger, he was president and CEO of RRI. Mr Muller had been chairman and CEO of Mirant.
The company’s current chairman and CEO Edward Muller will assume the additional role of president.
Mr Muller said: “On behalf of GenOn's board of directors, I want to thank Mark for his many contributions to GenOn and its predecessors. He played a key leadership role in the successful integration of RRI Energy and Mirant. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.â€
Mr Jacobs said: “I am very proud of what we accomplished in bringing together two great companies to form GenOn. With the bulk of the integration work complete, Ed and I agree that this is an appropriate time for me to transition to my next challenge. I believe the company is well positioned for success going forward.â€
In July 2011, the company has named James Garlick as senior vice president of plant operations. Mr Garlick will be responsible for all aspects of the operation of GenOn's 24,200 Mw generation fleet.
GenOn's portfolio of power generation facilities includes baseload, intermediate and peaking units using coal, natural gas and oil to generate electricity.
Will the move affect the operations of the firm?
