Game sparkles with total sales up 76.8%
Total sales growth (including the recently acquired Gamestation) jumped an impressive 76.8%, with like-for-likes (excluding Gamestation) ahead 45.6%. Total international sales were also ahead by 75.2%, helped by like-for-likes of 39.5%. The retailer's store portfolio will reach 1,120 stores by the key Christmas trading period, compared to 825 stores at the same time last year. Trading for the eight weeks to September 22, 2007 has also been encouraging with total sales up 101.3%, helped by a like-for-like increase of 44.9%. Peter Lewis, chairman, said in a statement: "The strong performance reported today is a result of our hard work in getting Game properly positioned ahead of the new technology cycle. We will continue to innovate and broaden our offer in an increasingly competitive retail environment".
