eBay launches eBay Neighborhoods

A collection of micro-communities built around common interests and passions, eBay Neighborhoods encourage eBay community members to interact, share, and trade with each other in a fun and engaging way. eBay Neighborhoods draws content from existing community features such as eBay listings, eBay blogs, eBay guides, and eBay reviews, while adding new neighborhood-specific message boards, member-uploaded photos, and social mapping tools to visualize the interconnections between people and their common interests. At launch there are more than 600 neighborhoods covering a diversity of interests from beyonce and battlestar galactica, to webkinz and weddings. The company expects the number of neighborhoods to grow and evolve based on continuous community feedback. Company executives have stated that improving the buyer experience is eBay.com's top ongoing priority. Along with other recently introduced features and products such as eBay Desktop, a new home page, eBay MyWorld, and others, eBay Neighborhoods marks the latest step in a continuous effort to reshape commerce, delight its customers, and raise the expectations people have when they go online. Jamie Iannone, VP of buyer experience at eBay, said: "On eBay, people who are passionate about certain brands, trends, celebrities or products have been discovering and trading with one another for years. We hope that eBay Neighborhoods makes this even easier by combining commerce, communication, and community in a way that enhances traditional online buying and selling."
