Microsoft Corporation and consumer electronics retailer Best Buy have partnered to set up stores within 500 Best Buy outlets across the US and about 100 Best Buy and Future Shop outlets in Canada.

The new stores, named ‘Windows Store only’, will feature an area between 1,500 square feet and 2,200 square feet and  sell Windows operating system apart from a range of products and accessories, including Windows-based tablets and PCs, Windows Phones, Microsoft Office, Xbox, and many more.

The stores will also feature an innovation space and a showcase section featuring Microsoft’s Windows-based PCs, tablets, ultrabooks, convertibles, detachables and portable devices.

Roll out of the new stores will begin from late June through September.

Microsoft is planning to improve its revenues through the new stores, by primarily focusing  on PC sales which were affected by slump in the PC market. Microsoft expects to boost sales with the help of Best Buy’s store and customer network.

Tami Reller, chief marketing officer and CFO of the Windows division at Microsoft, said: “The Windows Store offers a large-scale, hands-on customer experience that will show customers how Windows and Microsoft devices and services can make it easier for them to work and play.

“We’re pleased to partner with Best Buy in bringing the latest technologies to consumers at scale in a unique environment where they can explore how Microsoft products fit together across entertainment, travel, music and other scenarios.”

Apart from the Microsoft specialists already working across Best Buy locations, Microsoft will train 1,200 Best Buy sales associates to help customers.

Jason Bonfig, vice president of computing at Best Buy, said: “Best Buy’s chief goal is to serve our customers as only we can, whether they come to us online or in stores. The Windows Store creates the kind of retail destination we all want to shop in, combining great selection, the latest technology, the best service and the lowest prices.”

“What our customers will see in these 600 stores is something totally new and fully in line with our determination to transform Best Buy,” added Bonfig.
