John McAfee, the multimillionaire anti-virus entrepreneur, has admitted he is now in Guatemala, after fleeing Belize where he is wanted for questioning over a murder.

On his website he said: “I apologise for all of the misdirections over the past few days . . . I am in Guatemala.”

McAfee became a "person of interest" in Belize over an investigation into the murder of Gregory Faull, one of McAfee's neighbours, whose body was discovered last month by police.

McAfee said he fled to Guatemala because he thought the police intended to kill him. The prime minister of Belize said: “I don’t want to be unkind to the gentleman, but I believe he is extremely paranoid”.

Mr McAfee also sent a message to Faull's family: “I had nothing to do with his death. I have lost five close family members in my 67 years and I know your suffering.”
