David Cameron was not the only one to compare economic strife to a war at the CBI conference yesterday - Rupert Soames, chief executive of power generation rental business Aggreko, invoked memories of the World War One battle, and urged UK businesses to look to emerging markets to do business because there is more opportunity.

I think most members of the CBI, Commons and Lords would have really benefitted from the experience of the Somme.
