WABCO Begins Delivery of Air Disc Brakes to MAN

MAN marks the first application of new WABCO NG22MAX air disc brakes on heavy duty trucks and results so far demonstrate better performance.

Through pioneering engineering, WABCO’s single-piston NG22MAX combines innovative compact design with high performance braking. Weighing only 86 pounds (39 kilograms) including brake pads, WABCO NG22MAX is the lightest air disc brake of its kind.

As a result, trucks can increase payload and improve fuel economy while also reducing maintenance and service costs due to increased brake pad thickness and exchangeable wear sensors.

This multi-year agreement with MAN represents new business and further expands WABCO’s long established relationship with MAN. WABCO furnishes MAN with electronic braking and electronically controlled air suspension systems, as well as brake actuators, clutch servo technology, air compressors, air dryer systems and onboard electronic systems, among other vehicle components.

Nikhil Varty, vice president of compression and braking at WABCO, said: “This major contract with MAN is another mark of WABCO’s technology leadership as we expand our breakthrough single-piston air disc braking technology into heavy duty truck applications.

“We are proud to further grow our partnership with MAN as we provide them with more choice to satisfy their needs in heavy duty vehicles through WABCO’s innovative offering of industry-leading NG22MAX high performance, low weight air disc brakes.”
