First HMV, now Blockbuster goes into administration. Who's next? Wirelesses R Us? Half-Crown stores? The Old Curiosity Shop??? It's sad: so many memories. I still remember going into a Blockbuster, renting a video from it, going back out of the Blockbuster again with my video, and watching the video at home. Good times. Where will I go for my videos now?

Deloitte's Lee Manning told the BBC:

"We will continue to trade as normal in both retail and rental whilst we seek a buyer for all or parts of the business as a going concern."

"The core of the business is still profitable"

He's kidding, right? This is very unlikely to be true for long. Online competition is just too strong now - DVD/video recording, if not dead, is in its very last throes.

Well least Blockbuster, (unlike HMV), is giving people a chance to use up all their vouchers. Manning told the BBC:

"During this time gift cards and credit acquired through Blockbuster's trade-in scheme will be honoured towards the purchase of goods."

UPDATE: Anything snarky I could say about this story has already been said, with better comedic timing and in full colour, a long time ago, by the Onion and by South Park:
