Asda to hire 7,500 employees

Asda also set to double the workforce of Netto, hiring 1,500 people.

British retailer Asda will generate 7,500 new jobs in the UK in 2010, parent company Walmart has announced.

UK's second largest supermarket chain said it will recruit 3,500 people to fill positions at its new stores, 2,400 to staff its home shopping service and a further 100 employees to run 16 new pharmacies which it will open next year.

Asda will also double the workforce of Danish discount store chain Netto - which it acquired in May - by hiring 1,500 people. The Netto acquisition will add 170 stores under the grocer by the second quarter of 2011.

"I'm proud to say next year we will once again create thousands of new jobs at every level of our growing business. At Asda, we always recruit for attitude and train for skill, so you needn't have previous retail experience to apply. We're simply looking for people who share our passion for customer service," said Asda chief executive Andy Clarke.
