Although the allergy advice on the product label mentions that the product 'may contain traces of milk', the content of milk is beyond what might be described as 'trace levels'. Hence, the Food Standards Agency has issued an Allergy Alert on the product.
The agency said that the product is a possible health risk for anyone who is allergic to or intolerant of milk. The withdrawn product is: Divine Dark Chocolate, 100g, with Best before end date of July 2010, and Batch code L129045; and Divine Dark Chocolate, 100g, with Best before end date of April 2011, and Batch code L329411.
The company has asked retailers that sell the product to withdraw the affected chocolate from sale. Point-of-sale notices will be displayed in stores, explaining to customers why the product has been withdrawn.
It said that the consumers who bought the affected product, can return it for a full refund. The company also said it will contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members of the withdrawal. No other Divine Chocolate products are known to be affected.
