Strictly Come Dancing final draws 12m viewers

But Judd performance fails to hit last year's ratings high.

Over 12m people tuned in to McFly star Harry Judd's appearance on the final of Strictly Come Dancing last night, but Judd's win fell short of last year's ratings high.

While the show -- in which Waterloo Road's Chelsee Healey finished in second place and former Neighbours star Jason Donovan came in third -- attracted 12.12m viewers, last year's final featuring winner Kara Tointon drew an impressive 12.97m.

The Saturday night results update similarly failed to hit last year's ratings high, drawing 11.76m compared to 13.08m viewers.

The first half of this year's Strictly consistently surpassed last year's audience until the Wembley Arena special featuring Russell Grant. After that show, in which Grant was fired from a cannon, its overnight ratings generally dropped behind last year's performance.
