ITV: "Daybreak underperformed"

Hosts Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley have not drawn as many viewers as GMTV.

ITV has confessed that breakfast TV show Daybreak, presented by Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley, has "not performed as we would have hoped".

Chiles and Bleakley relaunched the breakfast programme on 6th September after they defected from the BBC.

After nearly six months on air, the programme has averaged around 100,000 viewers less than GMTV, the show it repalced.

Barb figures reveal that Daybreak's average audience has been 800,000, an 18.5 per cent share.

During the same period GMTV had a 23.4 per cent share.

Meanwhile, the average audience of BBC 1's Breakfast has risen by 300,000

ITV chief executive Adam Crozier said that the programme has improved over the last few months and it is vital that the broadcaster continues to invest in the show.

Chiles admits the show has had difficulties but has urged audiences to give it another chance.

Plse,plse,plse remove the most annoying and idiotic people on TV.C Bleakley and A chiles.I switched over from BBC briefly this am,but switched back immediately when I heard the ridiculous cackling of Ms Bleakley and A Chiles and a just as daft famer.Please bring back our Penny and the rest of the crew or better still offer lorraine the job,but plse do something about the two.who do not have a clue on presenting t v before all your viewers disappear forever

Sorry but Breakfast is rubbish, Adrian Childs is to dower in a morning and has about as much carisma as a door just painted, plus he`s over exposed he has a chat show, sport programmes, put Dan Lobb in charge, and also get rid of that appaling TV guy bring back Richard from GMTV, in fact sack the lot of them and Adam Crozier Chief Exec ITV as incompitent for his continued support of a cr*p show

I have tuned into this show, once or twice, and hated it. Bring back Penny Smith, with her sense of homour, Ben Sheppard,with his charm.
