ITV has right to decide X Factor elimination process, says Ofcom

Cowell: "furious"

After receiving over 900 complaints last week claiming that Sunday night's The X Factor was fixed, Ofcom has said that ITV has the sole discretion to decide the show's elimination process.

Metro quoted the media regulator as stating that while the public vote decides the two contestants who would feature in the bottom two, ITV reserves the right to choose its own process to eliminate a contestant.

An X Factor spokesperson told the Daily Mail that a judge can abstain from placing a vote and in such a situation, a majority vote would be considered. Ruling out fix claims, she added: "Judges do not know any result of the votes when on air at all. There are only a handful of people that know the results of the vote and this does not even include the series producer."

Programme's creator Simon Cowell is reportedly "furious" over fix claims.
