ABC to launch VoD service on BT Vision

Video-on-Demand channel to be added to Freeview via BT's on-line TV service

US broadcaster ABC has struck a deal with BT's online TV service, BT Vision, to launch a video-on-demand service in the UK from 15 September.

A spokeswoman for the Walt Disney-owned company said the service, called ABC TV On Demand, will be introduced on BT's broadband-enabled Freeview TV platform. It is the first such service to be launched by the broadcaster outside the US.

Under the deal, BT Vision customers in the UK will get video-on-demand access to ABC's programming such as Private Practice, Criminal Minds, Brothers & Sisters, Cougar Town, Desperate Housewives, Lost, Grey's Anatomy and Ugly Betty. Past seasons of these series will also be available.

ABC TV On Demand will be available for £6.99 a month. Individual episodes would also be offered at 99p on a pay-per-view basis.

Disney is reportedly in talks with other VoD operators to launch the service to a wider audience.
