BBC Trust executives' expenses bill falls by 20 per cent

Significant drop in claims as austerity kicks in at the top.

The expenses bill submitted by 13 BBC Trust executives has fallen by more than 20 per cent to £62,099 for the six months to the end of March.

BBC chairman Sir Michael Lyons has made the highest claim of £16,043, while trustee Anthony Fry spent only £531 during the period. Sir Michael's expenses also included his car and driver bills totalling £14,000.

The Trust said the trustees spent nearly £20,431 on accommodation, about £12,000 on cars, more than £9,000 on flights and about £14,000 on rail travel.

A Trust spokesman said that the BBC trustees will also take an 8.3 per cent reduction in pay this year and in 2011.
