Sky Sports has signed up departing GMTV presenter Ben Shephard in a £495,000-a-year deal to present its live UEFA Champions League football coverage and co-host the Goals On Sunday programme.
Shephard will host his final programme on GMTV on Friday. He had been associated with the breakfast broadcaster for the last ten years and decided to quit following the announcement of a shake-up in the programme.
He will start at Sky Sports from 15 August.
Sky Sports sources said Shephard will work with Richard Keys, who has been presenting the show since its launch in 1992. They noted that the pair would "compliment" each other given the amount of games the broadcaster shows and that Shephard's remit will not encroach upon Keys's.
However, it is believed that Shephard will be groomed as Keys's long-term successor.
Shephard also has the credit of appearing three times in the celebrity team for ITV1's charity football format Soccer Aid.
