Lord Bragg will relaunch the South Bank Show, which was axed by ITV after 33 years, on the Sky Arts channel.
Bragg has signed a deal with Sky Arts to start with the South Bank Show Awards in January 2011 and front a series of documentaries about the winners after the ceremony.
The awards, renamed as the South Bank Sky Arts Awards, will be screened live from a central location in London in a peak evening slot.
It is understood that Bragg has agreed to work on a number of BBC programmes since ITV cut down on his arts programmes.
John Cassy, Sky Arts channel director, said he was glad to work with Bragg, who he said "has an infectious enthusiasm for and an unrivalled knowledge of the arts". He added that Bragg and Sky Arts could gain from each other's ideas.
Bragg noted that Sky Arts has provided him with an opportunity to contribute to contemporary arts at a crucial time.
