Channel 4 signs content deal with Kinetic

UK broadcaster buys rights to US series.

Channel 4's rights exploitation division 4Rights has signed a deal with US production company Kinetic Content for the UK rights to the company's scripted series that are developed for the US cable market.

According to the deal, 4Rights will provide funding for Kinetic to produce new programmes, including "original and irreverent 13-part cable dramas, as well as shorter run event mini-series".

Kinetic will work closely with Channel 4's LA-based programme acquisition consultant Crispin Leyser.

While Channel 4 will have approval rights over the scripts, Kinetic is responsible for setting up the projects and managing them as well as securing network orders for the series.

4Rights development manager Dominic Schreiber said the deal helps them involve in developing and co-funding the US series that will bring secondary revenues to Channel 4 and enhance its ratings.

Kinetic was founded by former RDF USA chief Chris Coelen in March this year.
