Electric Sofa to launch new channels on Sky

Young broadcasting company to start general entertainment channel and British and US indie film chan

New broadcaster Electric Sofa has set out plans to launch three new entertainment and movies channels on Sky this autumn.

The company plans to launch a film channel entirely devoted to showcasing British-funded or produced movies. It will show British indie films, and screen classic movies in the afternoons.

Electric Sofa will also launch a US indie film channel, licensing movies from mainly US sales agents, and a general entertainment channel, including in-house content.

All the three channels will be launched on Sky on 1 November. The company also said that the channels will be available shortly on "other platforms and online".

Electric Sofa is co-managed by Andrew Burns, former chief operating officer at Film24, the movie-broadcaster which recently went into liquidation.

Burns noted that the company is in talks with investors and content providers, and added that they have recruited several industry experts and specialists to advise them.
