BSkyB to buy Virgin's TV portfolio

Virgin1, Living, Bravo and Challenge could be part of the deal.

BSkyB is likely to buy Virgin Media's television channels, which include Virgin1, Living, Bravo and Challenge, for about £150-160m, in a deal to be finalised next week, it has been reported.

However, as part of the deal, Virgin Media would not only be granted a long-term carriage agreement to access Virgin Media TV channels but will also get preferential access to Sky's high-definition premium sport and movie channels.

This means Virgin can continue to offer Virgin Media TV channels on its cable TV platform. Additionally, it will also be offered a slot on Freeview.

Following the deal, BSkyB will take over Virgin's proposed digital terrestrial subscription service, Picnic, which was cleared by Ofcom.
