Doctor Who fans furious over changing theme tune

Doctor Who fans are furious over the changing of its legendary theme tune, reports the Telegraph.

The makers of the science fiction show had for the first time attempted to change the tune since the show began in 1963. They added a new melody played by electronic trumpets to the original score.

The new theme, composed by Murray Gold, coincided with the first appearance of Matt Smith, the new Time Lord, on April 9. Fans reacted angrily on internet message boards; the BBC has received 70 complaints about the new theme.

The original tune, which was composed by Ron Grainer and is produced by Delia Derbyshire, is loved by fans for its eerie wailing high notes and sinister beat.

A spokesperson of the show said the change is important for the regeneration of the show.
