BBC commissions documentary on Queen

The BBC has commissioned a three-part documentary series about the Queen to mark her Diamond Jubilee

The documentary will examine the Queen's role in running the nation.

The broadcaster Andrew Marr will present the series for BBC One. He has started his research on the project and expects the programme to be "serious and intelligent".

Marr said the series will focus on how the Queen reigns, the advantages and disadvantages out of royal banquets and visits, and her knowledge about each British government since Churchill's tenure.

The series is the first programme on the Queen since the "Queengate" scandal three years ago, in which misleading footage of the monarch was shown in a documentary.
