Katie Derham to leave ITN for BBC

The ITV newsreader, who has been at ITN since 1998, is switching to the public service broadcaster.

Derham joined ITN as arts and media editor, covering showbiz events around the world. She has anchored the lunchtime news since 2004 and also co-presented London Tonight.

Derham is keen on quitting the newsroom to focus on fresh projects at the BBC, it has been learnt. The 39-year old newsreader, who started her career as a researcher at the corporation, will host the BBC's coverage of the Proms for BBC2 and Radio3.

According to the Daily Mail, Derham will receive a salary of up to £250,000 at the corporation. Her present salary is believed to be £200,000. Derham holds the credit for being the youngest national newsreader on British television.
