BBC to take fewer crew to World Cup

Corporation flying 15 per cent less staff to South Africa than to Germany in 2006.

The Corporation is understood to be taking a total of 295 employees to South Africa. The broadcaster has already built a glass studio on the roof of a Cape Town hospital as its World Cup base.

The Corporation decided to prune the number of staff covering the World Cup after politicians and competitors criticised its budgets. The BBC took 437 staff members to cover Beijing Olympics in 2008.
