BBC refuses Gordon Brown as guest

The BBC has turned down the Downing Street request to feature the prime minister on Match of the Day

Brown's advisors asked the BBC if Brown could appear on MOTD2 along with the presenter Adrian Chiles and other visitors such as Lee Dixon. They wanted the prime minister to highlight England's bid for the 2018 World Cup.

The Corporation is reported to have said that Brown's appearance in its programme would be inappropriate just before the general election. It argued that it is expected to be impartial in allotting equal air time to all party leaders.

Brown has been extended his media appearances of late. His recent interview with Piers Morgan has been regarded as a success by his advisors.

The Labour apparently wants to soften the prime minister's image through media appearances.
